Topic 2: Guide participants in creating client-centered solutions

In order to practice design thinking, there are several steps that should be followed:

  1. Understand the problem that needs to be resolved. In other words, empathise, see the problem spherically, and act accordingly.
  2. Involve the users: In other words, define the problem from all points of view. Take input from other stakeholders, partners, sellers, etc., and follow a human-centered approach.
  3. Think outside the box: In other words, ideate. Organise brainstorming sessions to challenge the existing assumptions and create new ideas. Remember that there is no place for judgement here; only for constructive criticism and feedback.
  4. Prototyope and test: In other words, experiment with the ideas that have been developed. Put them into practice. See if they work. Repeat if necessary.
  5. Implement: In other words, bring the ideas to life. See how the product or the service works under real circumstances and how satisfied the end users are with it. If needed, go back to one of the previous steps and repeat.

In general, design thinking is about listening to the needs of clients and creating solutions tailored to them. Here is a video that summarises the process described above: https://shorturl.at/abjMN.

Regardless of the target audience or the type of business or organisation, design thinking can be easily applied and evaluated, bringing the desirable results. In all cases, one should bear in mind the following tips:

    • Be people-centered.
    • Communicate (visually and inclusively).
    • Collaborate and co-create.
    • Iterate, iterate, iterate!
